I often remind people that wealth is more than money because deep down people know this is true. And the more of it you have the more you recognize this truth. Yet we still tend to focus a disproportionate amount of time on money issues instead of non-money values.
It dawned on me the other day I was doing this with one of the top priorities in my life. It came to me in the simplest of ways. At first I didn’t recognize it for what it was. It even had to come to me multiple times in the same way before did something about it.
We’ll be heading out as a family to go somewhere and my daughter on many occasions would say, “Daddy, I ride in your car, not mommy’s car, okay.” I’d respond, “We’re all going together in mommy’s car.” Then she’d say it again.
That was it. My three year old was saying I need and want time to connect with just you daddy. Time to go with you in your car into the world where only we can go together.
Date night with my kids was initiated. Last night was the first. And it was the first of many more to come!
Has someone important in your life been making quiet statements that seem to not connect with the context of the situation at the time?
Listen. Pay attention. A meaningful opportunity could be at hand!
