Friday, August 17th, Movies on Milton will feature “The Princess Bride,” in celebration of the beloved movie’s 25th anniversary.
“The Princess Bride” is a much-loved classic that transcends a single genre, as a comedy slash swashbuckling adventure slash romance. The movie follows Wesley, a simple but dashing farmhand, and the beautiful, though oddly-named, Buttercup. Their adventures are framed as a story in a book—The Princess Bride—narrated by a grandfather to his grandson who is sick in bed.
The grandfather’s narration sets the stage for a tale filled with action—sword fights, kidnapping, and intrigue; comedy—witty dialogue, wordplay, and slapstick humor; and romance—but I won’t give away between whom (though you can probably already guess).
“The Princess Bride” stars Cary Elwes and Robin Wright and is PG-13.
The movie will be shown on Milton Avenue (across from Alpharetta City Hall at 2 South Main Street) on a large, inflatable screen. The festivities will begin at 7:30pm., with music, popcorn, BBQ, sweets, beverages, and inflatables. The movie will start at approximately 8:30pm.
The movie is free. There will be free parking at Alpharetta City Hall and the Milton Center (86 School Drive). Bring your own chairs and blankets to sit and enjoy!
